Sundar Pichai – Journey of a Metallurgy graduate from IIT Kharagpur to Google
Sundararajan Pichai, the CEO of Alphabet Inc. & it’s subsidiary Google LLC is the first Indian CEO of the world’s highly used Search Engine Google. Sundar is an Indian born – American Scientist & business Executive who began his career as a materials engineer & joined Google as a Management Executive in 2004. He has reached the position of the Product Chief and CEO of Google in October 2015 and later in December 2019 he became the CEO of its holding parent company Alphabet Inc.
Pichai has done his graduation in Metallurgical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. He has done his masters in two different subjects, M.S. in material Sciences & engineering from Stanford University and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He was named as a Siebel Scholar & Palmer Scholar in the university.
Sundar started his career as an engineer product manager at a semiconductor maker (Applied materials) in Silicon Valley, USA in 2002. He then joined as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company where he worked for 2 years before joining Google in 2004. In Google he led the product management and innovation efforts for a suite of Google’s client software products, including Google Chrome and Chrome OS, as well as being largely responsible for Google Drive. He went on to oversee the development of other applications such as Gmail and Google Maps. The decision of launching Google Chrome was the biggest step to Sundar’s success as a product chief. In 2012 he released Chrome book in Public.
He was awarded the “Global Leadership Award 2019” by USIBC.
